Through the acquisition of ScientificMed, Cuviva is taking an active and leading role in developing a comprehensive value proposition that includes both broad solutions for remote monitoring and follow-up of chronically ill patients, as well as specialized digital therapies in oncology. Over time, this will be expanded to more specific diagnostic areas.
Cuviva’s software platform makes it possible to move a significant portion of healthcare services into patients’ homes. The primary healthcare interaction can take place via real-time communication and sensor-based, high-quality data that is exchanged between the patient and healthcare professionals. This results in improved accessibility, higher medical quality, and better continuity for the patient, as well as a better working environment for healthcare staff. Cuviva is the leading player in Sweden in the field of remote communication and monitoring of vulnerable and multimorbid elderly people and currently offers the most comprehensive platform for home-based healthcare and support.
Since 2012, ScientificMed has been developing a platform for digital therapies for specific medical treatments and health interventions in collaboration with healthcare providers, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and the Karolinska Institute. The platform is used by healthcare professionals and patients to improve treatment outcomes in oncology and other diagnostic areas.
Henrik Cederqvist, CEO of Cuviva, explains:
“The healthcare sector is facing several paradigm shifts: patients will increasingly be treated at home rather than in hospitals. Healthcare will transition from being reactive to proactive – by using remote monitoring, we can detect a decline in a patient’s health earlier and therefore take action sooner, preventing unnecessary emergency hospital visits. Additionally, treatments will become increasingly digital – with both digital therapies and digital support for treatment.”
“Since Cuviva’s founding in 2016, our vision has always been to actively drive these paradigm shifts – to improve the health outcomes of patients with the greatest needs while significantly contributing to higher quality and efficiency in healthcare.”
Henrik Cederqvist continues:
“With the acquisition of ScientificMed, Cuviva is expanding its offering to new customer groups and partners, enabling us to drive this transformation in the market even more effectively. ScientificMed has an exceptionally strong team with unique expertise and extensive experience in developing digital therapies and health interventions. We believe that this acquisition creates great value for all our customers and brings significant synergies in product development. ScientificMed also has a very strong customer portfolio with great strategic value for us. We expect the market to undergo major changes in the coming years, and we intend to be active in the upcoming consolidation.”
Jan Fjellström, CEO and co-founder of ScientificMed, adds:
“It is fantastic that we are now joining forces with Cuviva. With Cuviva’s broad and well-developed platform, we can better meet the needs of the market. This allows us to accelerate our expansion, both in the Nordic region and internationally.”
As part of the acquisition, several owners of ScientificMed have chosen to become shareholders in Cuviva, including the Leksell family’s investment firm, Bonit Capital, and Fabian Fischer, co-founder of Adlibris and Apotea.
Richard Leksell, Partner at Bonit Capital, explains:
“We have been following Cuviva for a long time and are impressed by the team and the scalable platform they have built. Their growth plan appeals to us, and we are convinced that ScientificMed’s value proposition can be developed and scaled up more rapidly together with Cuviva. Bonit has been investing in healthcare for a long time, and we see e-health in general, and digital support for home-based care in particular, as a highly interesting area. We look forward to supporting Cuviva in becoming a leading player in remote monitoring in Sweden and internationally.”
