Cuviva, through its acquisition of ScientificMed, is taking an active and leading role in developing a comprehensive value proposition that includes both broad solutions for remote monitoring and follow-up of chronically ill patients and specialised digital therapies in oncology, as well as more specific diagnostic areas in the future.
Cuviva’s software platform enables much of the care to be moved into the patient’s home. The fundamental healthcare contact can occur via real-time communication, with sensor-based, high-quality data transmitted between the patient and healthcare staff. This results in increased accessibility, better medical quality, improved continuity for individuals, and a better working environment for healthcare personnel. Cuviva is the leading player in Sweden for remote communication and monitoring of frail and multi-sick elderly individuals and currently has the broadest platform for home care services.
Since 2012, ScientificMed has developed a platform for digital therapies for specific medication treatments and health interventions in collaboration with healthcare providers, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and Karolinska Institute. The platform is used by healthcare professionals and patients to improve treatment outcomes in cancer care and other diagnostic areas.
Henrik Cederqvist, CEO of Cuviva, explains:
– The healthcare sector is facing several paradigm shifts: Patients will more frequently receive care at home instead of in hospitals. Care will shift from being reactive to proactive—through remote monitoring, deteriorations in patients’ health can be detected earlier, allowing timely interventions to prevent unnecessary emergency hospital visits. Treatments will increasingly be digital, incorporating both digital therapies and digital support for treatments.
– Cuviva’s vision since its inception in 2016 has always been to drive these paradigm shifts—to create better health for patients with the greatest needs and to significantly contribute to increased quality and efficiency in healthcare. Henrik continues:
– With the acquisition of ScientificMed, Cuviva is broadening its offerings to new customer groups and partners, enabling us to drive this market change even better. ScientificMed has an extremely skilled team with unique expertise and extensive experience in developing digital therapies and health interventions. We believe this acquisition creates significant value for all our customers and substantial synergies in product development. ScientificMed also has a very strong customer portfolio with great strategic value for us. We believe the market will undergo significant changes in the coming years, and we intend to be active in the upcoming consolidation.
– We are very pleased to join forces with Cuviva. With Cuviva’s broad and well-developed platform, we can now meet the market’s needs even better. We can make a faster push both in the Nordic region and internationally, says Jan Fjellström, CEO and co-founder of ScientificMed.
As part of the acquisition, several of ScientificMed’s owners are choosing to become co-owners of Cuviva, including the Leksell family’s investment company Bonit Capital and Fabian Fischer, co-founder of Adlibris and Apotea.
– We have long followed Cuviva and are impressed with the team and the scalable platform they have built. They have a growth plan that appeals to us, and we are convinced that ScientificMed’s value proposition can be developed and scaled faster in collaboration with Cuviva. Bonit has been investing in healthcare for a long time, and we see that e-health in general, and digital support for home care specifically, is a very interesting area. We look forward to supporting Cuviva in becoming a leading player in remote monitoring in Sweden and internationally, says Richard Leksell, Partner at Bonit Capital.
